We were so excited to finally make it to Santorini! The 45-minute flight from Athens was a breeze and the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen outside of an airplane window. After we landed we walked off the plane onto the tarmac and got on a shuttle to the airport, it was so tiny! We got our bags from baggage claim and looked for the man with the sign that had our names on it, we got in the car and went to our hotel. When we pulled up to The Majestic all I could think was how beautiful its surroundings was, there were views everywhere we turned! We went into the lobby to check in and we were greeted with fresh juice, once our room was ready we were taken there with our bags trailing in a few minutes after. All of the rooms open to the outside and everything about the hotel was fabulous. A stunning pool with lounge chairs, a pool bar, a glass restaurant and more amazing views! Our room was the perfect size with everything that we needed, even an outside sitting area that was covered with more stunning views! We spend the rest of the day unpacking and laying out by the pool while trying to adjust to the time change and jet lag. We were so happy to be spending 6 days at this beautiful 4-star hotel and we couldn’t wait to explore Santorini!
The next day we woke up and went and got breakfast at the hotel, they had a stunning spread of everything you could think of! Later that day we were booked for a wine tour so we decided to hang by the pool for a little while then get ready to go! We were picked up in a van full of 3 other couples and our tour guide and we were off! Our first stop was to a vineyard field to learn about how the whole process works. We learned that Santorini is famous for its white grape varieties as they produce mostly white wine in Santorini. The island is a desert like climate and gets little to no rain so it was interesting to hear that the pumice rock collects the moisture from the dew in the morning then releases it at night to water the plants! Because of the strong winds and heat in the area, the plants are trained low to the ground in a basket shape to protect the grapes. The soil in the region is very poor, composed of volcanic ash and rocks so it is amazing to learn that they are successful in growing the grapes to make the wine! After the wine lesson, we went to our first (our of 3) wineries, at each of them we got to see where the barrels were stored and each method of storage. We also got to taste wines and pair them with some different foods to help bring out the tastes of the wine! We learned so much and had a blast with the other 3 couples and our tour guide on the trip! We all were from the states (Texas, NYC and Long Island) and there was one other couple on their honeymoon. If you ever go to Santorini I highly recommend doing a wine tour. Not only did we learn a lot but every winery had stunning views (are you noticing a trend?!), something unique about them and the most amazing wines. We headed back to our hotel feeling so excited about the rest of our trip and so thankful for the most amazing first full day we could have ever asked for!
I bought this jumper right before we left and I am SO glad I did! It is the most comfortable thing ever, it fits so perfectly, is such a cute color and it is under $100! The twist and the cut out are such adorable details that really set it apart from other jumpers out there and the low back was so pretty! It was perfect for a day of wine tasting! Below are photos from the wine tour as well as photos of my outfit with links to purchase at the bottom!
