Happy Friday!
It was a fun week but I am ready for some R&R. I love when my routine is a little different than usual and I am able to experience new things. Being at the Restaurant Expo with Restaurant Reputations was such a great experience. My coworkers and I were able to meet other business owners and spread the word about our growing business. We are all really passionate about what we do so seeing it in action made me really happy. It has been nice to focus on work and my blog to keep my mind off things. Diving into the things I love to do has really helped me get through the past few months and I am grateful for the people around me that believe in me and are reaching out to work with me. I am so excited for the future and have so many exciting things to share with you guys!
This two piece set is from White Fox in Hampden, Maryland and I am obsessed with it! I wore it when we were in Montana and we were cracking up when we saw a mailbox with the exact same print! Whoever chose it has great taste ;). The fabric is really soft and it is really comfortable, I love the dark floral for fall as well! Whenever I go to White Fox I get so excited, there is always so many amazing options and I cannot wait to see what will be available for Fall! When you are in Hampden you have to stop by and check it out, the address is 1025 W 36th St, Baltimore, MD 21211. If you ever love anything that I am wearing from the boutique and would like to purchase it contact me!
I often think back to this trip and daydream of the beautiful views and the mountain hikes. Relaxing and getting away with my family makes my heart so full and I can’t wait to do it again somewhere else! Any suggestions on where to go? When we lived in LA, we could see the Hollywood sign from our apartment so every morning before work we would park halfway up the mountain and go for a hike. I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have that in my backyard until we left. I really enjoy hiking, it is a stress reliever and it is so nice to get away and be able to reflect.
Check out this amazing photoshoot we did in Montana as well as my dermaplaning Q&A below!
When I heard about dermaplaning I had to give it a try! I always wondered if there was a procedure like it and if it would benefit my skin. I have very dry skin as well as freckles so it has taken time to figure out the best skincare routine for myself. I have been using the Honest Beauty Everything Organic Facial Oil, as well as the Honest Beauty Even Brighter Everyday Moisturizer and they have done wonders for my skin! I am loving trying new things from the Honest Beauty line, the mascara was amazing as well! All 3 are linked below!
When I started to research dermaplaning I was really liking what I was hearing. I liked the thought of the top layer of skin being gently scraped off of my face as well as the removal of hair. It is an urban legend that if you shave your hair comes back thicker so I was intrigued to see what it would be like for it all to be gone! I was so happy to see that the procedure is only $60. I decided to find a place that did it and call to get more information. Katz Eye Group is right down the street from my house and they have a division of the company called Aesthetics by Katzen and they offer dermaplaning. When I called they were very informative which confirmed that I wanted to try it. I scheduled an appointment and had a really great experience. I did it on the Thursday morning before we left for Montana Friday night for my cousin’s wedding. Right away I saw a difference in my skin, it was glowing a little bit more and it was so smooth, it felt so good to know that the top dead layer of skin was off of my face! It is a non-invasive procedure that is great to get a good glow before an event! Because I had so many questions I thought it would be fun to do a Q&A with my aesthetician Stephanie! You guys sent me some amazing questions and she was so nice to answer them! Her contact information is below the Q&A if you live in the Lutherville – Timonium area and would like to give it a try! Keep reading to get your questions answered, is dermaplaning right for you? Let me know in the comments below!
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a safe (provided the person performing it is properly trained) and highly effective physical exfoliation procedure. It requires the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently “shave” the skin’s surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair (aka peach fuzz). The procedure can be performed monthly, in less than thirty minutes, with no downtime post-treatment. Dermaplaning is only performed on the face; however, it is not meant to be used to shape eyebrows, which are made up of “terminal” (not vellus) hairs. The nose is also avoided. The blade is positioned at an approximately 45-degree angle in relation to the skin and is gently swept across the skin’s surface. The sweeping action gently removes dead skin cells in the uppermost layers of the skin; cells which are often at the end of the skin’s natural regeneration cycle and can make it appear dull or discolored. In the process, the Dermaplane blade also removes the fine hair on the skin, which can reduce the need for waxing, although this procedure does not take the place of facial waxing completely.
How long before a special event (say…your own wedding) do you recommend getting the procedure done?
Make-up artists encourage their clients to get their dermaplane done a couple days prior to events because the skin is much smoother and make-up sets nicely because we remove the vellus hair from the face.
What are the short-term benefits?
Exfoliation of dead cells along with the removal of fine hairs results in healthier, brighter skin that has a smoother look and feel. Dermaplane treatments leave your skin radiant and glowing.
Are there long-term benefits?
Physical exfoliation triggers the cell regeneration process and allows products to better penetrate the skin, benefiting the overall health of your skin. Dermaplaning is also excellent to rid the face of excess fine hairs which can often accumulate dirt and oil. Contrary to popular belief, vellus hairs, as opposed to terminal hair, will not grow back thicker or darker.
Are there certain skin types that are better for dermaplaning than others?
Dermaplaning is especially effective on those with dry or rough skin texture and helps to minimize superficial acne scarring or uneven skin tone. It is also beneficial for mature skin, which tends to have a buildup of dead cells as cellular turnover slows down with age. Dermaplaning is safe for pregnant or lactating clients who cannot have chemical peels. People with extremely oily or active acne should avoid this procedure.
Can you get dermaplaning done on any part of your body?
Dermaplane treatment is generally administered on the face and neck. Although it can be used to treat other parts of the body, it is less efficient for covering large areas than other exfoliation treatments.
What needs to be done post procedure for lasting effects?
While treatment provides great benefit for your skin, it is up to you to maintain your result by practicing a healthy skin care routine, using products intended for your skins specific needs. Your aesthetician sees you and touches your skin once per month, you are responsible for upkeep in between. The importance of SPF on a daily basis is crucial, after treatments that can cause you to become more light sensitive it may be recommended to apply more than one time per day. It is recommended that you use an SPF of 30 or higher on a daily basis.
Anything else you would like to add about the procedure?
Plan to be in the office about 1 hour for your first treatment, the initial consultation can cause your appointment time to take longer than follow-up visits. The treatment is great to do alone, in the winter (drier months) the dermaplane treatment pairs with a hydrating masque. Some patients choose to do a chemical peel post-dermaplaning (I wouldn’t recommend this if you’ve never had either treatment before or have sensitive skin).
