Ever since we moved back into our house we have been working so hard to get the outside to match the inside. While in the rental, waiting to move back home, after the fire, we had a lot of time to think about what we wanted to do so we wasted no time getting started. I thought it would be fun to share progress pictures and track the process as we go!
The first area we decided to start was the side of our house, there was nothing there and we envisioned a flower garden. I have dreamed of being able to pick all of my favorite flowers right in my own yard to put all over my house so we decided to make that happen!
To start we had to carve out the garden area and till the soil 8-10 inches deep, we didn’t use any special tools, just good old fashion shovel, rake, and pickaxe. As we did that we removed any large rocks and debris to clean out the area and get it ready for optimal flower growth. After we finished getting the area prepared we laid down weed screens, they help stop the growth of unwanted weeds from popping up around the flowers. Once the weed screens are down we cut an X in the spots we wanted to plant, folded the weed screen back then dug holes, put in the flowers, and added mulch on top! If it doesn’t rain I am outside watering these babies every day, I also prune each flower bush as needed and add flower food once a month! I am learning so much about each flower and I am so excited to help them thrive!
